Brazil Fazenda Pinhal
A coffee from a farm that runs on sunshine.
Fazenda Pinhal sits in the rolling hills near Santo Antônio do Amparo, in Sul de Minas - Brazil's most storied coffee region. The Gabarra Teixeira family have run it since 1994, and today it's led by sixth-generation farmer Pedro Gabarra and his sister Mariana.
Only around a third of the farm's 914 hectares is planted with coffee. The rest is native forest, reforestation projects and even a sanctuary for injured birds. In 2019 Pinhal was named Brazil's most sustainable coffee farm, and that same year they installed solar panels that now cover 100% of the farm's energy use.
Which makes it a very natural fit for us. Solar-powered on the farm, roasted on our all-electric Bellwether in York when the grid is greenest - renewable energy from cherry to cup!
Expect plum, almond, caramel and dark chocolate, with a smooth, rounded body. It's a pulped natural - the cherries are pulped and then dried on patios for 7-10 days - which keeps it sweet and clean. Great as espresso, in milk or through a cafetiere.
